In-Person Workshops

Based in Sandpoint Idaho, CMHS is one of the longest-running herbal schools in the Pacific Northwest. Community workshops are held at a variety of locations in Sandpoint, Idaho and surrounding areas, and will be plainly noted in the workshop descriptions.

Each workshop covers medicinal uses for the plants harvested, case study stories, anatomy and physiology, with best preparations for extracting and preserving the medicinal constituents and appropriate applications.

North Idaho Roots to Tips Herbal Apprenticeship Program 2026

Our North Idaho Roots to Tips Herbal Apprenticeship Program is for those who have a strong desire to strengthen their skills and fill their herbal tool belts and apothecary with plant medicine from both the wild and garden. CMHS delivers intensive in-the-field plant identification with hands-on harvesting, formulation, medicine making and holistic health practices. This program is appropriate for both novice and advanced students and meets on Thursdays, May through September.

Throughout this immersive program, students will gain both foundational and advanced skills in herbal medicine making, plant identification, and applied herbal theory.

Spend a cold January morning in Suzanne’s cozy kitchen exploring the medicine, flavor and versatility of elderberry, Oregon grape and aronia. These colorful berries are rich in anthocyanins, powerful plant compounds that support the heart, blood vessels, immune system and more. Learn the healing properties of each berry and the best ways to extract and preserve their medicine. Students will make a berry tincture and berry-infused vinegar and honey to take home, along with delicious, healthy treats to enjoy during class. Come spend a fantastic morning filled with plants, food and fun!

Firey Fire Cider

Fire cider is warming, potent, delicious and versatile, but are you getting the most medicine from your ingredients? Those beautiful social media jars filled with whole garlic cloves and large pieces of roots may look impressive, but they don’t make the most effective remedy. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the BEST way to prepare the ingredients, extract their beneficial constituents and preserve the medicine well. We’ll explore how each ingredient works in the body, and you’ll make a pint of Fiery Fire Cider to take home.

Natural Soap Making From Scratch

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, discover how easy and satisfying it can be to make beautiful, luxurious soap from scratch! In this demonstration class from Suzanne’s kitchen, you’ll learn her time-tested method for creating rich, creamy bars that cleanse beautifully while leaving skin feeling soft and moisturized. We’ll use natural oils, butters, clays, and essential oils—without synthetic fragrances or dyes.
