Late winter and early spring may seem like a barren time with little to harvest, but it is actually the BEST time to harvest Cottonwood buds! These heavenly scented buds are incredibly medicinal! This is an especially wonderful opportunity to get out into nature in the winter and enjoy fresh air while learning all about a very ecologically important tree. And you will learn to make your very own hand crafted Cottonwood bud remedies with …for yourself and your loved ones!

How much do I love cottonwood bud medicine? SO MUCH! It is an absolute staple in our house. In fact, panic has been known to set in when we get low!  Cottonwood leaf buds contain resins and constituents that are very effective at reducing inflammation and relieving pain. Plus, they are highly antimicrobial, making the medicine of the buds perfect for treating cuts, scrapes. cold sores, and sore throats. Cottonwood also helps to heal tissues, prevent infection, and brings blessed relief to those experiencing  arthritis, strains, pains, aches, and general muscle soreness or injury. Does it hurt? Well, then, you need cottonwood!

In this wildcrafting adventure you will learn all about the medicine of cottonwood trees, how to identify them (even when there are no leaves on the trees), where to find them on your own and how to responsibly harvest the harvest the richly sticky, heavenly scented, and incredibly medicinal leaf buds from the windfallen branches of the Cottonwood trees!

AND for those of you who are abstaining from alcohol in January after the excess of the holidays, or if you or a loved one(s) are avoiding alcohol altogether, note that all remedies made in this class are alcohol-free!

You will have the choice to make and take home one, and maybe two, remedies (depending on the amount of buds available to harvest ethically). Options  will include making an an infused oil and/or an infused honey. We will also cover the many reasons why you might choose to do either! PLUS (and I am really excited about this) I will show you how to make a cottonwood bud salve right in the field among the trees! Then you will take home your own sample of this healing salve along with additional recipes!

We will be either in the Carnation or North Bend area. Detailed meeting instructions will be provided about a week prior to class meeting. Carpool options may be arranged if needed. Please email Heather to inquire.

IMPORTANT! PLAN IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER:

As you know, the weather in Winter is unpredictable. So, if January 27th is not possible, the alternate date for this Wildcrafting course is: February 10, 2023. The determination of using the alternate date is at the discretion of CMHS.

If we experience especially problematic weather (such as a severe windstorm or snowstorm) for both of these dates (unlikely!)  CMHS will work to arrange another time for this class, credit you for another class, or issue a refund at that time. Please be aware that since the alternate date has been arranged in advance, it is your responsibility to be sure the backup date will work with your schedule before registering. You will not be issued a refund if we must use the alternate date.
