Autumn is the season to prepare our home apothecaries with herbal remedies that prevent and alleviate common illnesses and keep us healthy during the winter months. This is the first class in an Autumn Wellness Series where you will be introduced to the tradition of Fire Cider and learn how and why to include this very effective remedy in YOUR herbal wellness protocols!

The autumn ritual of making Fire Cider is a time honored herbalist tradition and one I look forward to every year! What is Fire Cider?! It is a pungent, spicy, and very tasty concoction made from Apple cider vinegar, honey, and a variety of vegetables and herbs that is used to strengthen the immune system. Taken at the first sign of illness, it is a tried and true, highly effective remedy for preventing or shortening the duration and severity of viral infections!

In this workshop, you will learn about the history of Fire Cider, the constituents of each ingredient and the role they play in supporting the immune system and preventing illness. We go over step-by-step how to craft your own Fire Cider, the specifics of how to prepare each ingredients to get the best extraction of the constituents, discuss recipe variations, and how and when to take Fire Cider to get the maximum benefit!

This workshop takes place in a beautiful outdoor location! Who doesn’t love the vibrant colors and crips, cool days of Autumn? I can think of no better way to celebrate the first day of fall than spending it in the beautiful outdoors, making Fire Cider, learning about plants, sipping hot apple cider, and visiting with other herb folk! This class is held at a gorgeous forested lake that is also home to a wide variety of native plants as well as some apple and cherry trees.

You will make and take home a quart of Fire Cider. All plant ingredients will be provided for this workshop! The day will wrap up with a short (about 1 mile) plant walk around the lake where you will learn to identify some native plants and learn about how they can help keep you and loved ones healthy, too!
